Long-term thinking

Hello Crew,

It’s an interesting and important day indeed. If you haven’t, please head to the polls and get your vote in. It matters and it always makes a difference.

Today, in the midst of expectations and anxieties I have tremendous news and great content to think long-term about what truly matters. My apologies for disappearing for 2 weeks, I was getting married to the most special girl in the world. Proof that even in the toughest times we always have a choice to make things better and have something to look forward to.

I’m finally back to the grind and ready to spread some positivity. So let’s get to it!

“Our painful experiences aren’t a liability—they’re a gift. They give us perspective and meaning, an opportunity to find our unique purpose and our strength.”

✍️ My trip to Miami to get married gave me some time to ponder through podcasts. In one of the most insightful episodes, Tim Ferris interviewed Seth Godin. It’s a masterpiece on craft and principles. Please, give it a listen.

🦄 Ok, so it seems like Ferris was on a roll while I was out. After listening to the episode with Godin, I stayed plugged in, and there are two more that I cannot stop recommending. First, Matthew McConaughey’s, who clearly is one of the best storytellers I have ever listened to. He talked about his journey, taking listeners on a ride of laughs and thoughts. From a different corner, Tim had Naval Ravikant on the show. Naval is one of the most important thinkers of our time and he talked about everything from science and cryptocurrencies to how to become wealthy ‘without getting lucky’.

🎤 Ok yes, I’m doing a bunch of podcasts today. Brad Gerstner and Rich Barton on Invest Like the Best talk access to information as a competitive advantage. Give it a listen.

🧐 Let’s talk Netflix. Go watch Chasing Coral. To my investors here, climate investing is poised to renew its position as an investment frontier. Vinod Khosla, Elon Musk, and Chamath Palihapitiya are examples of this. So don’t look at this one from a sad perspective, but as an opportunity to invest your time and resources in the long-term things. Now that I have your attention, don’t forget to watch 13th, the documentary.

💰After all, this is a business newsletter. One of the most debated topics in business is product-market fit. But how about business-funding fit? For those of you interested in new forms of capital allocation, Pipe’s example is not only curious but enticing in a world where equity and debt are the typical paths.
